How I Can Help You

My role as a psychotherapist is to support you during a life crisis, help improve your quality of life and manage relationships better, as well as helping to promote your emotional growth and develop self-awareness.

I understand that opening your heart to a stranger may feel intimidating or unnatural. Indeed, it is a brave move. This is why our first session will be an assessment of our connection and suitability, to see whether I believe I can help you, and to check that you’re comfortable with me.

I offer a warm, supportive and non-judgemental therapeutic space where we can explore your emotions, feelings and experiences to reach a deeper understanding and move forward with wider possibilities.

No two people are alike, and I treat everyone as a unique individual, exploring your life patterns and narrative with intent and attention.

As a counsellor I work with both individuals and couples on a short-term, time limited basis or an open-ended longer-term period. I abide by the UKCP and BACP codes of ethics in delivering a professional and confidential psychotherapy service.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between counselling and psychotherapy?

Psychotherapists will have studied to a higher level of academic qualification than counsellors, although counselling is also a generic term used in this field. All qualified counsellors and psychotherapists will have trained in a specific approach. They will have worked in supervised placements in order to qualify for membership with a regulating body.

How can I change my personal information?

If you have provided your personal details and GPs name and address, please let me know if any of this changes or if you change your GP. This information will be retained only as long as we are working together, after which time it will be deleted.

Will everything I say be kept confidential?

Everything we talk about is confidential. I will not disclose any information to a third party other than in the event that, in my opinion, there is a threat to your own safety or the safety of others, or if I am obliged to do so by law. If I do disclose information for these purposes, I will normally try to do this in discussion with you and with your consent. My governing bodies, the BACP and UKCP, require me to have appropriate supervision for each client I see in which some of the content from our sessions together will be discussed with my supervisor to enable me to provide you with a safe and therapeutic environment. In accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998, any records of our sessions will be kept confidential and kept in a secure manner.
