My name is Sharon Kaplansky. A warm welcome to my website.
Facing challenges in your day to day life? Struggling with anxiety, relationship issues, depression or panic? Therapy will help you cope with your feelings and offer clarity, helping you make meaning of your life and empowering you to create a richer and more positive future.
I am an experienced, qualified and accredited counsellor and psychotherapist based in Finchley, North London. I hold an MA in Counselling and Psychotherapy from the Minster Centre / Middlesex University, London. I am also a certified couples therapist with the Couple's Institute.
I am currently training to obtain my diploma as a Supervisor at CSTD London, for individuals and groups.
I offer a special rate for new supervisees.
I have worked as a counsellor within the NHS, voluntary, charitable and private sectors with a wide range of client groups and issues such as anxiety, depression, trauma, panic, bereavement, coping with terminal illness and relationship challenges. I incorporate different approaches in my counselling and psychotherapy to best meet your needs.
My role as a psychotherapist is to support you during a life crisis, help improve your quality of life and manage relationships better, as well as helping to promote your emotional growth and develop self-awareness.
I understand that opening your heart to a stranger may feel intimidating or unnatural. Indeed, it is a brave move. This is why our first session will be an assessment of our connection and suitability, to see whether I believe I can help you, and to check that you’re comfortable with me.
I offer a warm, supportive and non-judgemental therapeutic space where we can explore your emotions, feelings and experiences to reach a deeper understanding and move forward with wider possibilities.
No two people are alike, and I treat everyone as a unique individual, exploring your life patterns and narrative with intent and attention.
As a psychotherapist I work with both individuals and couples on a short-term, time limited basis or an open-ended longer-term period. I abide by the UKCP and BACP codes of ethics in delivering a professional and confidential psychotherapy service.
My private counselling practice is in Finchley Central at Collingtree Lodge, Amberden Avenue Finchley N3 3BJ also within easy reach of Temple Fortune, Golders Green, Hendon, North Finchley, East Finchley, Mill Hill, Barnet and Edgware.
If you are driving, there is ample all day, free parking at the practice. My practice is located a short walk from Finchley Central tube station. The bus routes 13 and 460 stop at the "Mountfield Road" stop on Regents Park Road, which is a 5 minute walk to the practice.
I provide therapy in English and Hebrew.
I work during weekdays. On Tuesday and Thursday I also offer evening sessions from 6pm. I am also available for counselling via Skype and Zoom and have several clients who have used this technology.
My Fees payable weekly: £70 per 50 minute session £100 per 50 minute session for couples. I am registered with Aviva, AXA/PPP and BUPA and I am able to accept clients through their services.
My fee for supervision is £50.
If you are unable to attend, I ask for 48 hours’ notice. The full rate for a missed session will be charged if cancelled within 48 hours. If you are late or delayed, it will not be possible to extend the session beyond the usual finishing time.
If I am unable to attend you will not be charged and I will endeavour to give you as much notice as possible.
The sessions will continue on an open-ended basis. We will agree a finishing date between us as appropriate.
Psychotherapists will have studied to a higher level of academic qualification than counsellors, although counselling is also a generic term used in this field. All qualified counsellors and psychotherapists will have trained in a specific approach. They will have worked in supervised placements in order to qualify for membership with a regulating body.
If you have provided your personal details and GPs name and address, please let me know if any of this changes or if you change your GP. This information will be retained only as long as we are working together, after which time it will be deleted.
Everything we talk about is confidential. I will not disclose any information to a third party other than in the event that, in my opinion, there is a threat to your own safety or the safety of others, or if I am obliged to do so by law. If I do disclose information for these purposes, I will normally try to do this in discussion with you and with your consent. My governing bodies, the BACP and UKCP, require me to have appropriate supervision for each client I see in which some of the content from our sessions together will be discussed with my supervisor to enable me to provide you with a safe and therapeutic environment. In accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998, any records of our sessions will be kept confidential and kept in a secure manner.
Feel free to contact me if you have any questions about how counselling works, or to arrange an initial assessment appointment. You can also call me on 07941 669195 if you would prefer to leave a message or speak to me first. I am happy to discuss any queries or questions you may have prior to arranging an initial appointment.
